MR SPECTROSCOPY (MRS)

  • MR SPECTROSCOPY (MRS)

Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) is an MRI method that measures the amount and distribution of metabolites in the brain. The differences between the chemical compositions of these metabolites are shown in a graph. It gives very useful information in the distinction of mass lesions (malignant tumor, abscess, demyelinating disease, etc.) seen in brain MRI examinations. The distinction between these diseases and the determination of the malignancy degree of the tumors are of vital importance in terms of treatment planning. In addition, it is a critical examination in the follow-up of patients who have been treated surgically and/or with radiotherapy, and in distinguishing between tumor recurrence and radiation damage.
