Whole Body MRI Examination

  • What is Whole Body MRI Examination?

Whole Body MRI is a screening method that can be applied to healthy people with cancer risk and anxiety, takes approximately 50-60 minutes without radiation and no side effects, and has been applied in our Center since 2005. With the moving table feature in the MRI device, the whole body is scanned starting from the brain to the foot. While only a part of the body is scanned in classical MR imaging, the whole body is scanned and visualized in a single session in whole-body MRI examinations.

What Does 3 Tesla MRI and Short-Term MRI Technology Provide?

This technology provides clearer images in magnetic resonance imaging in a short time. Therefore, this technology is preferred to meet the needs of modern medicine. MRI scans to be made with this technology are preferred especially in some branches and examinations of medicine. This technology is used to display high-risk points in detailed examinations. Physicians who undertake the treatment process while the relevant examinations are being carried out can request especially the MRI images obtained with 3 Tesla technology.

For What Purpose Is Whole Body MRI Done?

It is performed for screening purposes in healthy people and is often used for tumor screening. It is preferred because it is radiation-free compared to PET-CT. In PET-CT examination, the patient receives a high amount of radiation from both radioactive material and CT. In addition, PET-CT can misdiagnose prostate cancer, brain tumors, certain types of colon tumors and lung cancer in imaging. The tumor may not be seen, or even if it is seen, it may be thought to be benign. Since it is the most superior method in brain imaging, all pathologies related to the brain (such as MS, and cerebral palsy) are displayed during whole-body MRI. Findings related to multiple myeloma, bile duct stones, and signs of inflammation are revealed. Since the lymph chain is also displayed in detail, it is also possible to detect diseases such as lymph node enlargement and lymphoma. Since contrast material is given during the procedure, life-threatening enlargements in the aorta are also noticed. In cancer patients, it can be detected whether the cancerous tissue has spread. It is checked whether the cancerous tissue has spread to the bone, liver, lung, lymph nodes and brain. MRI with high tissue resolution can detect tumors even in millimeters. The method also evaluates the response of cancer patients to treatment. Although the size of the tumor decreases with treatment, it may contain living tumor tissue. This allows a decision to be made whether to continue the treatment and whether a change is needed.

What are the Advantages of Whole Body MRI?

    – It is a radiation-free examination and can be repeated as many times as needed.

    – It doesn’t cause any harm to the body

    – It can be applied to all age groups.
