What is 4D Ultrasound (4D-US)?

Ultrasound is the event of producing high-frequency sound waves that the ear cannot hear and sending them to the tissue with the help of a probe (transducer), and then displaying the images created with the help of a computer from the sound waves reflected from the tissues at different densities, on a screen (monitor). The image quality of 4-dimensional (4D) ultrasound, which is a new production among technological products, is much better than standard 2-dimensional (2D) ultrasound – just like an MRI machine-, and details in tissues can be distinguished.

Advances in ultrasound (US) technology have enabled the three-dimensional examination of structures that were previously viewed as two-dimensional.

The information obtained as a result of screening a certain volume can be converted into three-dimensional images through computer programs. However, the formation of these images and viewing them on the screen were taking a long time. As a result of the latest technological developments, three-dimensional images have been replaced by four-dimensional (4D) US imaging.

The movements of the baby in the womb are displayed simultaneously (in realtime) using the time factor. The examination is started with a normal US examination on the same device. The baby’s internal organs (brain, stomach, kidneys, heart and bladder, etc.) are examined.

By making different measurements, the expected week of the baby is compared with the growth according to the last menstrual period. Then, the external anatomical structure of the baby is evaluated with 4D US.

The baby’s facial structure, hands and feet, spinal canal, back and abdominal wall can be observed in detail.
